The suburb was named after Sir James Dickson (1832 - 1901) who was one of the founders of the Constitution. Sir James was also a Legislator, Federalist and was the Premier of Queensland from 1898 - 1899. He was among the leading advocates in the Stae for Federation, attending several Federal Councils as a delegate.
